Is this a Refin? Factory perhaps?

Post by atomicmassunit » Fri Oct 13, 2017 12:30 pm

Hey guys, I need your expert offset opinions here. I bought this Jag as an all original a few years ago, and a pretty awesome Fender expert says the body is a refin, maybe factory, but probably not.

You can see it's OLD, and yellowed under the controls, but you can see sunburst in the cavities. Under some of the dings you can see there's no sunburst, so it seems someone sanded just the body and refinished it, but it's so freaking pro, and looks like a Fender finish... Has undercoat, is nitro, is checked, is old.

A - left the factory this way.

B - someone returned to Fender for refin

C - extremely old refin by owner

What do you think?

What does the neck pocket look like? That's highly relevant.

Also, that is one gorgeous guitar.

I'd say C - old resin by owner.

You can see sunburst in the upper control cavity, also no paint stick mark in the neck pocket

Definitely a refin. You can see that clearly in the pic that shows the neck pocket. Somebody painted over the shim, I doubt this is a factory finish. Gorgeous Jag though!

Yeah there's absolutely no way that's an original finish. Looks fantastic, but 100% a non factory refinish.

Thanks for the replies, y'all. That's what I suspected! Too bad I didn't have your eagle eyes when purchasing a couple years ago. Nevertheless, it ROCKS.
