non-fender recommendations..
Ello ello,
New here.. I'm after a new (vintage) offset, not looking to pay too much and would rather it not be a fender (although i love fender just fancy something different).
The Silvertone Bobkat has caught my eye, as well as the Charvel Surfcaster. Haven't got a massive budget.
Anyone got any other recommendations?
Cheers,
Pete

sorry i must contradict. it took me a while too, to get over the "oh no it's an Ibanez kinda snobbyness" (no offense), but man... dunno about the new ones, but the old ones are SUCH good guitars!!! they feel right, sound right, look right, and never became "mainstream" guitars, really.
a Surfcaster is cool too, but they cost as much as an old Fender these days.
i used to have an old Bobkat and HATED the doggone baseball bat neck. no way.
other than that, you can look for an old Höfner, Framus or EKO (on the European side), or just hope for the right Teisco - they range from utter useless shit to A-MAZING.
i love delay SO much ...that i procrastinate all the time.

I always liked Gibson non-reverse firebirds. I'm not the biggest Gibson fan (especially their new stuff), but those vintage P90s are awesome. Echopark makes an offset guitar as well (Ghetto Bird). It's a new guitar, but uses old stock wood.

you don't say where you are, but the suggestions of Framus, Eko, Hofner etc if in the EU (or even USA cos loads were exported) are good, Silvertone/Harmony are good too but generally a little more primitive fretwise, which may or may not prove a problem to you (By comparison, Hofners for example are seriously well made guitars, with excellent fretwork, nice radiused necks etc. My '64 verithin is up there with vintage Gibson semis, waaaaay better than any new ones and relatively cheap)
Charvel Surfcasters aren't vintage! haha

Micro-frets and Kustom are interesting guitars too in my opinion. Micro-frets was a very innovative small company. Less than 4000 guitars were made if I remember things correctly (and a part of that sank in the ocean while being shipped to Europe). Yet, they can be found at very decent prices and most of the time in very good condition.
Magnatone's from the first Paul Barth era (mark VII, VIII and IX) can sometimes be found at bargain prices as nobody seems to buy them. Wonderful glassy tones from the neck pickup. Bridge pickup is less interesting, so I would be happy with a Mark VII probably (mine is a Mark IX).

Re: non-fender recommendations..
I'm kinda partial to Reverend's offsets: https://www.reverendguitars.com/guitars
Edit: Reverends certainly don't count at "Vintage (Pre-1980)," so I apologize if this is in the wrong place. I guess we were off-topic the moment we started talking about Talmans (which are awesome).

Maybe a Wurlitzer Wildcat, but I've never played one in person
