NGD 1965 Jaguar - Highly modified

Post by yearofthezombie » Thu Oct 05, 2017 5:36 pm

I noticed this was recently added to the "why did you do it..." thread and well.. I bought it! The moment I saw it, I fell in love and was so intrigued...also confused. What does all that stuff do? What is that little electronic thing next to the fretboard? What is that chrome cover above the pick guard covering? Is that binding on the headstock? Why is the strap pin on the front of the body? What pickups are those? It seems that the story has been lost to time, since the original owner has passed away. But I wanted to uncover the secrets! well... some things became immediately obvious once it came in to my possession... others are still a mystery. The good news is that it plays quite well and for the most part sounds great. The neck position sounds really big and meaty, the bridge is a little too thin sounding and has much lower output. I'll have to dig in to that more. But really, for now I should just start with sharing some glamour shots! I'll update with more photos as I start to uncover the mysteries...

That's kinda BEYOND cool..in some other realm of 'out there' modifications 8) !

Funny..if someone had done all that to a VM Squier, you'd just think 'Oh..right  '..the fact that underneath all that..er..stuff..is a vintage Jaguar..crazy cool !! Congrats, & many happy hours of 'head-scratching' whilst figuring out what everything is/does :) !
Best,
Jeff.

this is so cool, don't touch a thing!

Is the rectangular metal plate a battery cover?

This honestly looks like something Bo Diddley would have cooked up on a jag. I can't wait to learn what secrets this guitar holds!

I thought surely that the cover above the pick guard would be for a battery. Alas, I am wrong. What would go in here. The wire goes from that cavity to the upper control cavity and connects to nothing. Any ideas? This was like opening Al Capone’s vault...

Speaking of upper control cavity... it's all disconnected aside from the ground.

Look inside the tremolo route... That original finish peeking through. Love that banana pudding!

So what is going on with the plastic box? In my mind it's some sort of contact-based noise generator. I love that the mute and even the freaking bridge cover are still on it.

That's fucking rad! I love the looks and everything about it it's very intriguing! I'd get rid of the headstock "binding" though. Happy NGD!

those exposed wires. is that the grounding? if so, im scared for humanity.

kinda funky though. if it were me, i'd stick a set of wrhb's in there and remove a lot of the crap so it's more of a usable guitar and if for any reason you like the electronics, just transfer them to a vm jag
