NGD 1968 Kalamazoo KG-2

Post by sirspens » Sat Sep 30, 2017 4:10 pm

So, I picked up a 1968 Kalamazoo KG-2 from Reverb for under $200 that should be here Tuesday. It is *supposed* to be original, except the paint job and the knobs. I guess we'll see.

This will be my first experience with a Kalamazoo, so I'm excited. But I am tempering that, because I've been disappointed with almost every vintage guitar I've ever bought. I'm not even sure what my plan is for it, I have just wanted to try one for a long time.

I'll post about my experience when it gets here.

They're made of plywood, from what I remember. Of course that doesn't mean much, but keep your expectations low. On the other hand, you got it for the price of an expensive meal at a fancy restaurant. Worst case scenario, you can make back your money.

Hope it's a good one! :)

I wonder if those bridges are worth quite a bit? :shifty:

That finish looks really good. Obviously you can manipulate pictures and stuff, but on that one picture, it looks really, really cool. You should try and match the headstock somehow and it'd just push it over the top 8) 8) 8)

Close-they're made of MDF (or some almost identical approximation) but anyone who owns one will always try to deny it or skirt around it by using some fancy name for it. And yep, the bridges on these are the same as an SG Junior and they share a bunch of other parts with other Gibsons as well. There's also a bass version with the same bridge and pickup as an EB-0. As you can imagine, they get parted out all the fucking time. I've always thought these guitars were kind of cool ever since I played one in a shop years ago. It had a really nice feeling neck and sounded pretty decent too.

I think those are the same pickups that they used in the Melody Makers at the time. I always really liked those. My SG shaped 67 is a great sounding guitar.

like the paint job!
