Hi guys,
Looking for some expert help here. My friend bought a vintage jag yesterday that was sold to him as a 1962. But once I saw it, I knew it probably wasn't. Its an L series. 1964. Everything checks out. Looks legit. but there is this weird "RR" solder gun marking in the neck. I've seen these before. But not specifically the RR. Usually for special guitars used for shows, or a factory refin etc. He got a really good deal on this guitar, so even what he paid for it, being a 64 was a great deal. So he's not super worried about it. Just interested if this looks like it was done by the factory or not.

Re: 64 Jag neck pocket markings
I had a vintage jazzmaster neck with R&R stamped on it , in the area of the 4 holes.............it wasn't made by a solder iron (like your friends), it was neater...........I remember talking to Jim Shine about it, and best we came up with was "refin and refresh"................Jim had actually never came across it either.
It looks like the RR was applied to the body when it was stripped which is interesting, so maybe a factory refin?

Yeah, that is what I'm thinking. Some how it was sent back to the factory for some touch up or repair.andrewaward wrote:I had a vintage jazzmaster neck with R&R stamped on it , in the area of the 4 holes.............it wasn't made by a solder iron (like your friends), it was neater...........I remember talking to Jim Shine about it, and best we came up with was "refin and refresh"................Jim had actually never came across it either.

The guitar looks "right" - I wouldn't say it detracts from the value much........think the input jack has been changed , that's about it )other than the obvious bridge).
