This! Exactly!!!amv wrote:All kidding aside, it really DOES look pretty good in those pics. A Costello Jaguar is a very intriguing idea, and as you put it, that tort in particular looks great.
I bet a proper walnut refin (with a fresh, mirror-like clearcoat) would look stunning. But it already has a pretty solid look from what I'm seeing.

+1- IMO the typical Fender EC stain jobs are pretty blotchy & horrible- this one looks a whole lot better to me.

Seeing your avatar, I'm not surprised you'd say that, MaggieMaggieo wrote:Polish it up and leave it be!!!! It's perfect AS IS!
Looks so much better than in the small, sun burnt pics of the auction. I might very well buff it and leave it be, at least for a while. I really like the combo of that chocolatey brown and the red tort.
In other news, I'm on a break between two big projects and the missus has been ok'd to take a few days at work. The time to travel is getting close, fast! Can't wait.

I used to build this exact jag in the dressing room on a weekly basis when I first joined OSG. Absolutely gorgeous!Axolotl wrote:I just got this on my inbox... Not so ugly after all!!

I support a refinish for all baby-shit brown guitars everywhere! In the strongest possible terms.

This thread convinced me to register!
I need to ask, how do you (and other people) find these deals on eBay!? Hours of trawling?
$1200 for 60's JG is sweet, and refin or not, that guitar is awesome! Super jealous!

^^^ It was 1400, not 1200. But still. I guess deals do appear from time to time. Last week I saw a 63 JM refin go for under 2k (it had a repaired headstock), I thought it was a pretty decent deal. Just gotta be on the lookout (Don't know if hours, but check often), and ready to pounce.
