Planning and regretting means planing and refretting.

Another +1 on the clamping thing. You can shine 3 x 100W light globes on the fingerboard side of it for a week or so while it's clamped in position. Then turn the lights off and let the neck cool for 24-48h. The glue between the fretboard and the neck will soften, adjust to the clamped position and then reset, holding the neck in its clamped configuration.
And it's *always* a good idea to hold the neck in the shape you want, then tighten the truss nut to hold it.
I fixed a badly twisted Jazz Bass neck in exactly this way, and it was dead stable for a year before I sold it.

...and another +1 on the clamping thing. My experience (on a Jazz Bass same as Matthew K)- it was severely forward bowed to a banana shape and someone had snapped the truss rod trying to straighten it. I thought it was a total disaster and doubted that it could be fixed, but I sorted the truss rod and then left the neck clamped into a backbow in a dark- coloured car on a hot day. It worked perfectly, I gave the board a level and refret afterwards and it's held up beautifully- you'd never know it ever had a problem.

Just a note that further updates will be posted over here on the repair thread: http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... 5#p1454085

The guitar just got dropped off today for the heat treatment. More info is in the thread.

Thanks!
Lee
