Looking for 1962 duo sonic info (strange decal)

Post by McBigie » Sat Jul 29, 2017 10:47 pm

Found a duo sonic neck on the local craigslist, was looking to find some info on it. Thinking of swapping a 22.5" into a mustang and the price is pretty good. I know the obvious, slab board and pencil marking, but can't figure out whats up with the logo. Anyone know if this is just a replacement decal or if it is a one off? Image
Craiglist link if anyone wants to buy it in the Boston area. https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/msg/d ... 19706.html

A wise person once said, "It's never a one-off."

Edit to add: I guess that wasn't helpful. That looks hand-painted to me, and it certainly wouldn't have been done in the factory. From the pictures it sure looks like a legit, if mistreated, Fender neck, but the only value in the ink is if you like the way it looks.

definitely painted on, but if the price is right why not. you can always get a proper decal made.

Wow! Looks like its had a locking tremolo on the guitar one time which is why all the holes on the neck above the nut. Decal definitely not original, but aftermarket decals are available.

Hahaha without wishing to be a dick, you might need to zoom in a bit if you were thinking that was any kind of decal. It's drawn on with blooming felt tip or something!

It could be original, actually; in 1962, production was temporarily moved from the Fullerton factory to the back of an 8th grade classroom, resulting in the brief, highly-collectible run of "sharpiecaster" headstocks from that era. You can verify it by checking the date on the end of the neck, which isn't a date at all, but reads "mr. walton is a dick".

Did anyone here buy this? I love a good rehab redemption story.
