Uh oh! Jaguar?
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Apparently, it was a particularly awful year. The wiki rabbit hole yielded this fun bit of lit history.NoiseNoiseNoise wrote:1666 was the year of the Great Fire of London, too

Re: Something wicked this way comes.
The Mark of the Beast Jag showed up today after laying waste to the I-80 corridor. All looks good (in a completely trashed sort of way). It's a refinished, refretted, humbuckered, A necked '66. The mute and original saddles were in the G&G (not original but nice). The seller inherited this but wanted a motorcycle, so it worked out to be a decent deal. Sounds very good. The filter switch isn't working great, and the rhythm circuit pots are scratchy, but otherwise electronics check out. Looks like maybe some original wiring was left in place. Plays decently but needs a setup for sure. The refin is pretty old and beaten, heading toward coppery in color. I'm not certain what was used yet. I'll test it later. I thought it was sunburst but it looks like it was stripped down to the sealer or else it was done red over red.
I've been looking for a B&B Jag I could haul to practice and not worry about much, either in a beat-up sunburst or something I could refinish with a matching headstock (black maybe?). This one has clearly been re-decaled, so I won't feel guilty about that. I'll restore it to Jag pickups or maybe a Jag in the neck and a Roadhouse Kingston mini in the bridge. Sonic evil lies ahead.

Crackwhore approves (very much, and I do too) and orders you to never ever thinking about refinishing this hottie!
...doesn't the ES stamp mean it is original?!

Re: NGD: Something wicked this way comes.
Always good to get Crackwhore approval! I've usually seen the ES stamp on sunbursts, but maybe it showed up on other colors too. You likely know more than I do about this. The neck pocket definitely shows a refinish. If it was sunburst, it looks like all the paint layers are gone, except maybe the yellow. There is a layer of darker red paint visible in some of the scarring on the back, but it looks like that layer is in the grain of the wood rather than sitting on the sealer.Pacafeliz wrote:Crackwhore approves (very much, and I do too) and orders you to never ever thinking about refinishing this hottie!

The color is kind of cool in person, much more copper/tomato soup than in the photos, almost like a Marrguar. Maybe I'd just get a color match and do the headstock? Custom colors without matching headstocks bug me.
