Anyone know what threading these take? I can get an M5 about 3 turns until it stops. I tried to screw in some different threaded bolts (SAE and Metric) and nothing else fits. I am starting to think the threads in the trem collet are damaged.
PS not my guitar in the pic

Re: Hi Flier Trem Arm
The original threads are an antiquated Japanese Industrial Standard(JIS) of M5 x 0.90 which was gradually phased out beginning in the mid to late sixties. The new metric standard is M5 x 0.80. I realize it seems like a small difference, but it is large enough to make it feel like the mismatch it is.
With some luck, you should be able to "chase" the collet threads with the correct M5 x 0.90 tap and some lubricant. They are still manufactured and available from tool suppliers or eBay for less than $10.
Regards,
Mark

Re: Hi Flier Trem Arm
Found a source on Ebay for the arm. EZPZ Parts.
24 bucks though.
I can get a Tap (or is it Die) for 6 bucks and convert an unthreaded arm. But then again, I could screw it up and end up spending 24 bucks on parts I'll have ruined.

Re: Hi Flier Trem Arm
Just bought one from EZPZ - if it fits and is the same design as the original then it's worth every penny. My first HF came with a different design arm that fitted the thread fine but really didn't work too great. When I finally got a proper arm with another HF I bought, the difference was insane. With the correct arm it's as good a trem unit as any I've ever used. Nicer even than a Jag/Jazz.secondhand wrote:Found a source on Ebay for the arm. EZPZ Parts.

My friend has one with no arm and I'm just thinking about how hard it'd be to replace the collet with one from a squire VM tremolo unit because i have like 4 of them that are never going to get any use haha

Re: Hi Flier Trem Arm
I bought the thread cutting tool and cut threads on the strat arm I had.
Worked great and easy to do. Doesn't look like the stock arm but that's ok.
