The wood in the worn patches looks a little too clean and new for my liking. I'd say modern body with some old parts fitted...
Cheers

That has got to be fake. That neck is a pile of shit.

Yeah, I'm guessing fake too. The only weird thing is that it's got a veneer board which most fakes don't have.

You guys are cynics. Looks ok to me, apart from the decal. I'm guessing the neck dates to Dec 67, with the rest a few years later. Pickups tuners etc all look period correct, and the fading of the red on the front would be pretty hard to fake. Worth at least £1750 I'd say.

I really like these tuners. Kind of a fusion of F-tuners & Klusons. Anyone know what they'd have originally come from?

EDIT - OK, scratch that. They're vintage Schallers. Nice!

Looks mostly original to me as well.

Still a few things are unexplained: what's with the red paint in the neck pocket and cavities? The poly burst finish looks pretty legit for a late 60s/70s (so does the pickguard).

Also, the pencil date on the neck heel is definitely nor original. Most likely the neck was refinished at some point? That'd explain the lack of original decal and date stamp. The binding and fretboard look like the real thing to me. It looks like it has been refretted. The inlays material looks whiter and milkier than usual. Maybe some inlays were replaced at some point?

I would be all over that at the right price...

This is an intriguing one for sure. The sunburst seems correct, but then there's that strange red paint on the cavities... Would you say it's nitro or poly finished? At least the neck seems to be nitro (looking at the wear), but it may have been refinished, as previously suggested.

Too many question marks to risk buying it at that price. I already own an Armenta necked Jag anyway ;D http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... 0#p1244640" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

looks to me like its been refin'd red..........then the red has been removed to reveal the orig burst. Hence the burn through that looks like bad relicing.

And quite a lot of the wire is unorig...........

I'd say its a legit early 70s Jag though, with removed refin and a few change parts

I'd say this is spot-on. ^^

Also, look carefully behind the bridge - two holes, looks like a stoptail or something has been on there at some point too.

Hi all, I am a new member here. I wanted to update the thread to say I bought this guitar on Tuesday and hope to receive it by post sometime today. I had a couple of long telephone conversations with the seller who had removed it from the auction site.

What we know: the seller states he bought it from a friend three years ago who had in turn bought it oversprayed in red laquer. Said friend took it to a local luthier who removed the red finish, retaining the original 3TSB below. There are clearly some patches where he has been over zealous with the sandpaper however this at least explains the red paint in the cavities and gives us a date for when the Kurt decal was put on the guitar.

I asked the seller for more pictures and gained a few additional interior shots; most of which are blurred, however one photo peaked my interest: At least one pot code visible has a date of 6632.

Being a gambling man, i took a punt and bought the guitar for £600. I am as interested as you probably are to see how this one turns out! If the forum is interested, I will be happy to share some better quality pictures of the mystery guitar when it arrives.

Thanks all,

HW

Okay, the guitar landed and I've had chance to take some images for you.

The neck:

As we saw before, the neck has a pencil mark of 12-61 / 12-69 which is clearly not original. I have black lighted the guitar and it is obvious the heel has been sanded, whereas the rest of the neck finish appears to be original (and seemingly, nitro). Underneath the pencil date, the original stamp is just about visible. If you squint hard enough at the image, a 15 can be seen - under black light by eye I can make out 15 xxxx 9B. I am not 100% the 9 is not a 2 however.

Fingerboard, blocks and binding all look original. Frets are low but in good shape.

The nut is a brass replacement.
