CBS Jag pricing?
I'm coming to really appreciate both the sound and playability of my '68 Jag. Shortscale is really not a direction I thought I would take—I've generally preferred Jazzmasters—but as I think back on it, the guitars that I've sold that I actually miss the most were shortscales, and the Jag seems to do almost everything I want. I've been thinking about selling one of my other guitars and picking up another Jag that would be more of a beater or a refin...something nice enough that I wouldn't just be wishing I had the other one but that I wouldn't mind hauling out to practice as much. I'm definitely considering the recent Mexican and US reissues, but the recent sales data at Reverb price guide suggests that a '66-69 Jag in Sunburst might also be workable (or I'd consider something stripped/refin-able). Is $2000-$2400 about right, or are they off the mark? I'm not seeing any priced there currently, but I haven't been following the market at all. Thanks!

No, I'd say that's about right. Jags always sell for a bit less than Jazzmasters, CBS era models a bit less than pre-CBS, and sunburst a bit less than custom colors. So $2,000-$2,400 sounds definitely doable.
I'm pretty sure Reverb goes by actual sales data from their site when making those estimates, don't they? I assumed it was automatic.

Thanks for your thoughts! I don't doubt Reverb's data. However, listing prices on sunburst Jags are high enough that I'd be offering $1000 less than asking price in many cases. That made me wonder if I was missing something, so the advice/confirmation helps.spacecadet wrote:No, I'd say that's about right. I've seen a good 6 vintage jags listed on reverb in the last 6 months that were $2000, often stripped or sunburst.
