Even Bonamassa is playing them now. They pop up on his Instagram account fairly often. Joe B playing offsets is probably one of the worst things to happen to offset afforadabilty going forward...MechaBulletBill wrote:Like Ryan Adams, the indie Joe Bonamassathedude99 wrote:* There is a largish pool of offset lovers on social media with fairly large followings. It's the same phenomenon we see with muscle cars, bmx bikes, and even Strats and Teles a generation ago.
People grow up, get real jobs and seek out the shiny things they wanted in their youth but could not afford then.

Yeah ... I've noticed an up-tick since the AV65 came out too ... that price point (2,200 euro originally here in Europe) was a rising tide that lifted all Jazzmaster boats!
Funnily enough, I've seen an ad for a gold AV65 for sale in Ireland where the seller is looking for a surcharge price on the basis that it's from the "first/limited" run and therefore is better or more desirable. So even the AV65 is influencing the price of AV65s!

Maybe this is just me, but I don't get the 'wanna have a guitar some famous shitta is playing' mentality.
I feel a bit weird playing my Vox Phantom at gigs cos someone might walk up and go 'nice phantom', in an ideal world I'd only ever be seen with guitars that no one apart from about three deep, incurable nerds could ever identify.

To be honest this is a lot of the reason my offsets don't get played out anymore. I found a dirt cheap guitar I like that works for me and attracts less attention.mgeek wrote:in an ideal world I'd only ever be seen with guitars that no one apart from about three deep, incurable nerds could ever identify.

.
JMs are showing up the last couple of years in popular Country too.
Winning music awards and playing music award show gigs with them raises their profile and people start looking for them in stores.

When I played a three day festival last year, nearly every band were playing them..no joke. Like 80% of 30 bands. To the point where mainstream reviews of the festival mentioned that all the bands were 'using the same shape guitar' or something like that. I must admit it did look a bit silly to me, like a uniform...

I mean, you could probably say that when the singer and guitar player for arguably the most popular rock band in the world was playing one in music videos and on stage in 1991, and they've been available as affordable reissues for more than 20 years, offsets have been a mainstream guitars for a reeeeeeeally long time.MechaBulletBill wrote:When even Mumford is looking uncomfortable strumming folky chords on the vintage JM someone put in his hands for an appearance on some talk show, you know that offsets are mainstream like strats/teles/LPs.
