Yep. It needs a refret badly ... it has the original frets and they're hardly there. It's playable, but playable if you play it a certain way. I've played vintage frets before - I can't understand how this guitar is this clean when the frets are down to nubs. The board is clean too ... there are no spots of play wear on the rosewood. No clue what's going on with that...
Have you opened it up yet ?

Sometimes it might be best to just enjoy it for what you think it is.

Maybe it was refinished at the factory? It looks so clean to have worn-out frets.

Questions :-

How does a guitar that beautifully clean (looks like it's almost unplayed) get to have frets so badly worn that they need replacement?

The case does not appear to be as clean as the guitar itself?

As already asked, has the guitar been dismantled yet?

If it is a factory refin then the appropriate factory marks will be visible.

One thing that I'd add to check out.the headstock decal..the way 'Jaguar' is printed looks odd..some of the letters have uneven spacing and look off..

Case is actually so clean that a friend thought it was a reissue case - the interior has decayed a bit, but otherwise it's fine.

Have I opened it? Nope - but I've checked the pots and looked in the easily opened cavities and all is as it should be. There is wear on the back but not through the finish.

The frets are low - they're perfect and unmarred ... but low. Maybe this is the first old offset I've played with original frets.

So - is it what it was sold to me as? Yep - I also have the benefits of the gut shots from when it was sold by a retailer in the UK. Actually ... here's their video on it:

The 'guar' is not part of the 'Ja' like a decal repair..and now you have me worried if it came from 'atoyboy'

Really? They usually list refins as refininshed ... they've sold quite a few that way.
You're right about the logo though ... I didn't spot that even when taking photos.

Not saying it is a refin...but I've spotted plenty of questionabe issues with the guitars they have for sale..I've pointed a few out to them..blatant ones..and they never reply or change the listings.

You're right - under the iPhone light the decal has clearly been repaired - the G U A R ... repair is half way through the G ... the repaired part of the decal has been covered in a thin layer of varnish to make it all hang together (which thankfully only extends to the edges of the decal).

It's actually well done apart from the font!

The other good thing is that under strong light there is quite a bit of checking through the neck and body that isn't really visible without the torch. The front of the neck, back of the neck and back and front of the guitar look right under light (i.e. Checked to the degree a guitar that's old but not much used would look).

Must investigate further though - I'm going to set it up later on so a full break down will follow.

If it's only the decal repair then meh ... I'm okay with that. I'd have had no issue with an unrelated decal - but fine

Hah..yeh you can see the the two A's are slightly different..pretty good repair tbh. But this is what I'm saying..it seems to be the norm for their guitars and why I don't trust them at all! I'd give the rest a super thorough check over..black light etc.

nice find! 8)
Looks like it has the low Gibson-style frets that appeared in the early CBS years on some instruments. Are they wider and flatter ?

The 'offset contour body' looks like a repro too..maybe check the whole of the top of that headstock out?

Not studied the pics Kevin - but remember a 67 should have gold base, not silver, for the CAR
