The Continuing Story of my LPB 64 JM
After a year or so of searching, finally found a beautiful 1964 1 meg LIN CTS volume pot to restore my 64 LPB Jazzmaster back to original condition. When I got the JM a few years ago, the volume pot had been switched out and had a 1971 250K AUD pot in it.
Now this baby is back to all original and plays fantastic! Here are a few pics for your viewing pleasure! And yes, that case candy is all original too!

Thanks for the compliments!
After nearly 2 years of relentlessly watching eBay and Reverb for a 64 LIN 1
meg pot and striking out, someone listed a complete 64 Jazzmaster harness and alum shield on Reverb two weeks ago for $300. I immediately jumped on it. Those 1 meg LIN pots are rare!!! Now I have some spare parts in case anything else fails.

Do you a notice a difference in sound? If so, what differences do you hear? Just curious.Surfgreen58 wrote:After a year or so of searching, finally found a beautiful 1964 1 meg LIN CTS volume pot to restore my 64 LPB Jazzmaster back to original condition. Re: The Continuing Story of my LPB 64 JM
Yes, I can definitely notice it's a little brighter then before but roiling the tone down to about 6 results in a very pleasing tone.
My guitar tech is still trying to figure out the issue regarding intermittent crackling and fluctuations in brightness and volume with the rhythm circuit.
After playing in the rhythm circuit for several minutes- there is intermittent crackling, the tone gets brighter, slightly louder, and occasionally distorts. Seems it only happens after something warms up inside but it doesn't happen all the time.
My guitar tech cleaned all the pots and switches very thoroughly and checked all connections and solder joints carefully. Every thing appears normal yet it still happens. Unfortunately, it is intermittent and he has not been able to replicate it in his workshop.
Now we are wondering if it's an issue with one or both of the pickups but I've never noticed the problem when playing in the lead circuit. It's a real mystery and searching the internet for someone with a similar problem has yielded no results.
Taking the JM back to him this week- hopefully he can figure it out as it's really annoying!

Re: The Continuing Story of my LPB 64 JM
That's a very nice Jazzmaster!
I am deciding on a color for my '64 Jazzmaster at the moment and since seeing yours this afternoon, I think it might become LPB.
My Jazzmaster hasd the same pot as yours btw, and I think it's circuits are untouched.
Judging from my guitar, I think '64's are just awesome.
I'm curious about the shape of your neck; mine's got a rather thin V-shaped neck that gets gradually bigger.
Despite being a B-sized neck, it's noticably narrower than the ones on the AVRI's I had.
splendid Jazzmaster you have there!
