very nice!
And cool that they were still using Kluson tuners on VI's in '69!

In all likelihood just a previous owner. I live in Boston, and that part of Newbury is all high end shops, though that movement didn't start until the late 80s. Before that, it was mostly middle class apartments/houses, and with Symphony, New England Conservatory, and Berklee close by, I'm sure a bunch of musicians lived in the area.

This is great addition to what I thought was a collection that couldn't possibly get any better!

Bridge cover and case are are obvious bonuses but to have one with the latter period decal yet still have Kluson tuners is pretty damn cool.

Thanks for the info on your CITES experience too, so many of us are wondering how this is going to work out for the future.

It's not that hard though... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5iJBoVSIn8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(the SQVI has the narrow CBS-dimensions)

Hi, no the squire VI is way wider than a CBS VI neck. 1st gens VI's like Bruce's are the widest of all the vintage VI's.

According to the Fender web site the Squier Bass VI has a nut width of 42mm. The CBS guitar corresponding dimension is 35mm. That makes a massive difference imho.

HUH?
1 1/2" is A-width and measures in metric as 38mm.
1 5/8" is B-width at 41mm.
Where did you get the 35mm measurement? That's 1 3/8". I can't imagine that as possible.

He's correct. The nut is 35mm, not the width of the neck at the nut...the actually nut slot and nut is 35mm.

My '63 VI measures a bit over 39mm - those later VIs got super-skinny!

The dimension on my 65 VI looks a tad over 35mm, more like 36mm (probably within manufacturing tolerances)

Did the neck dimensions change with the introduction of the 4 switch in 1962? (I never realised that there were such variations - you learn something new every day!)

I'm not sure if they changed dead on the switch to the MKII VI..but they definitely started off wider with the MKI and got progressively thinner through the years. The general rule is, if you want to use a VI as a bass get a MKI, they sound more like a normal fender bass to me too. If you want it more like a guitar with all the VI twang...get a MKII especially a late one..plus you get the bass cut switch.

I'm pretty sure they weren't. F-tuners took over the entire line (except mandos) by '67. It appears the previous owner (wisely?) replaced the tuners.

That's one gorgeous VI! :)

VI necks don't follow rules..especially custom colours. You'll see '63 stamped necks on guitars that are clearly later. And the chance of finding Bass VI specific F tuners as spares is next to zero. I'd like to see that VI's neck date and pot dates..'Im guessing '67 neck.
