Great score!

I'll keep my custom colour & tort combo opinions to myself but there's something about a vintage neck with clay dots & a non-matching headstock. Perfect!

The whole time it was in the mail, I was thinking: "Rats, I guess I'm going to need to refinish it sunburst. It's the only way."
And now that it's here, I'm thinking: "Nope, totally don't need to refinish it."

Totally jealous, dude! No way I would have taken that gamble though. Glad it worked out for you though. I think it looks awesome... but its needs a mint guard

I'm thinking of doing a bass vi build or perhaps a squire repainted. Charcoal frost.

I wouldn't refin yours though, it's perfect!

I dunno - Fiesta red / tort is probably near the bottom of the list as far as combinations I would have chosen if I was starting from scratch, but it's growing on me. ...plus, I think I might drive myself insane trying to track down a mint guard for a Vi.

Charcoal frost would probably looks very nice! I like when it turns a little green.

Nice score! Sounds like you took a gamble and came out on top in a big way. I'm afraid to look up how much you paid as I suspect it'll provoke an acute attack of Offset jealousy ;). That VI looks great as-is!

Yes, but it's a pretty long-term project, dependent on my playing skills getting better!

I'm really enjoying this weird thing. It reminds me of some friends who had a two-man band in high school (a Dr. Rhythm drum machine was the third band member.) On the cassette J-card it listed their credits as "lead bass" and "rhythm guitar."

To me at least, this thing is a "lead bass."

I spotted an ad for a '63 VI case on gbase. Within mass-transit travel range of my apartment too! Unfortunately, it was gone - but the seller had a mid-60's VI case, and agreed on a trade for a couple cases I wasn't using.
