Re: Cool offsets at Norm's
There was a video they did for a '62 jag that, on the closeup, clearly showed staggered poles on the neck pickup and flat poles on the bridge pickup. They boasted "all original electronics".
I contacted them to point out the inconsistency of that pickup with their statement. They never replied, and the guitar was sold.

^ Some Jags have been found with both! They were usually closer to transitional era though. A 62 would be very odd
These vids are very addictive. It's just cool to see all these rare beauties get played, despite them being bought and sold in elusive circles.

There are also jags in the April 64 onwards period that have one grey bobbin and one black bobbin PUP.
relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

And the claws placed in all manners form what I gather.

Re: Cool offsets at Norm's
well no .... flatter two claws (teeth of the claws) under the low E and A for the majority .
Occasionally one will see a genuine mistake from the factory with the claw the other way around. most "mistakes" I have seen are actually due to people refinishing or pulling their guitar apart and the re-assembling the PUPs back incorrectly
IIRC there is a blow-up drawing of the Jaguar from about 68 or 69 that shows the claws around the wrong way, but that was a service drawing and didn't affect production.
this is worth looking at: http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... 29&t=18371
Note: for the Bass VI the flat teeth of the claws were under the high E and B strings

Re: Cool offsets at Norm's
Exactly. In '62, there were no staggered pole pickups made as far as I've ever seen. The covers on the two pickups were also distinctly different shades (I know covers can age unevenly, but these genuinely looked like they came from two different guitars), which added to the...suspiciousness of the situation.kosmonautmayhem wrote:^ Some Jags have been found with both! The BM Jazzmaster was certainly very cool over at Norms, but the over 20k asking price outs it well out of the range of reasonability. But I guess they sold it...probably to a celebrity with lots of expendable cash

It went to Brian Ray, guitarist for Paul McCartney.bencrit wrote:The BM Jazzmaster was certainly very cool over at Norms, but the over 20k asking price outs it well out of the range of reasonability. But I guess they sold it...probably to a celebrity with lots of expendable cash

Another video of guitars from Norms.
No offsets but some examples of what they have in stock.
Just mindblowing what they have.

Re: Cool offsets at Norm's
wow.. just wow
I am not a Martin acoustic guy, but having a 1897 and a 1902 model in the same place .. wow
What blows me away every now and then is when Mark is doing guitar of the day vid and he casually says "oh Norm got this out of storage , he's had if for 20 or 25 years.." WTF and it is some mint 50 or 60 year old strat or Jazzmaster or LP or thinline or archtop or acoustic ...

Re: Cool offsets at Norm's
There's something weird and kind of elitist and greedy about hoarding and locking away mint guitars. More elitist than people who own million dollar Violins, at least those are loaned out played by the best of the best. Hell, sometimes rich people buy expensive old violins just solely to give to the best of the best as gifts!
But at the same time... I totally get it.

I'd sure like to know where this storage facility is. You know, to uh, make sure the guitars are...safe...sookwinder wrote:wow.. just wow
