I am correcting myself on this particular example. The original neck on this guitar was the less popular 22.5" scale and somebody ditched the shorter scale neck and installed a early 70's neck (24" scale). I am nerdy and found photos of the guitar before the swap in one of my many folders.
Now that is nerdy! Nice sleuth work though

Thanks! Here are before and after shots. Both have same serial number.

Here another one just listed on Reverb. Super clean.

Illustrates a 1970 with some purpleburst but non-matching headstock:

I was about to post this one too! Nice purple burst on it but overpriced, even with the candy.

Awakening this older thread for this 1973 Mustang which surprisingly for the year does seem to have a hint of purple to it, at least to my eyes. Or maybe its just faded in the middle, near the bridge:

It's a pretty one for sure and not a bad price given the good condition. It must have missed the cut for the silver Victoria case but there's nothing wrong with a black tolex one.

My Holy Grail. How can I find out which Japanese guitar shop really has it? (likely can't afford but would love better pics).

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Search Digimart, Yahoo Japan Auctions, and J-Guitar. I usually look to see if the seller's other items are in the same basic visual format. If so, the likelihood that they are a shop and not a middle person increases. That's one nice but spendy Compstang.

Yes! I've seen this one, its a stunner. The same eBay seller (I know, not likely to be the real seller) also has a '68ish Dakota Red lefty Mustang for sale. I'm a lefty, obviously
