It's the original pickguard from 1965. Luckily for me the humbucker mod left the original guard untouched.teensupertiger wrote:where that tort pickguard is from?

I think you made the perfect color choice, it looks beautiful -the pickguard looks perfectly at home on Daphne Blue.
Cudos to the person that did that non-destructive humbucker mod, it's great that the full tort get's to see the light again.
Better that You get to relic it

Re: Refinished my 65 Jazzmaster to Daphne Blue
So, it's been over a year since the refin. A few days ago I finally completed the restoration of this amazing guitar by replacing the AV65 neck pickup for a vintage (most likely 66 or 65) pickup and a 64 pickup cover I got from fellow forumites will and mcjt (thank you guys!). Before swapping the pickup, I recorded some stuff to be able to A/B it after the change. The vintage pickup is noticeably crispier and richer than the AV65, which, by comparison sounded a bit tamed/dull . The vintage pickup cover is not a perfect match, but I like how it looks like some of the tort color smudged into it (sort of). Here are some pics of the guitar today. She is getting looots of playtime and love <3 .
Summing up, since I got it on 2013 I plugged the hole in the neck pup cavity which was horribly routed for a HB, gave it a refret, a Daphne blue refinish (it was an ugly natural refin), staytrem bits, new nut and now a vintage period correct neck pup and cover.

Nice to see an update! Glad you're still loving this one!
I kinda liked the way you found it - although I could never get away with a JM that had no JM neck pickup.

It's hard not to love her. It's my first vintage JM and it was quite a deal. The wide, chunky non-tapered neck is a joy to play. It's been my best playing guitar since I got it. Now it's one of my best-sounding too. The vintage pickup really made a difference. The whole restoration took about 5 years to be completed, but it was a very enjoyable ridekosmonautmayhem wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 5:46 pmNice to see an update! Glad you're still loving this one!

Looks amazing! Glad you could bring it full circle with the vintage neck pickup. I'll never get sick of seeing those original tort guards too - so beautiful!

Wow, it's another guitar now. I think this thread has pushed me over the edge: I will start restoring my '65 "crackwhore" Jag, too.
