NGD: 1973 Framus 5/155 "Strato 6" JazzBlaster
well yeah, i confess, since arriving here in Germany 4.5 months ago I've been a bit on an Euro guitar binge of some sorts... no surpirse, you know me.
aaaanyway... i was on the hunt for one of those nice golden 3-pickup Framus Strato Deluxe guitars with all the bling, but they are just stupid expensive.
but i came across this one for a steal, and received it yesterday. it was partially strung with plastic acoustic guitar stings, 1 inch action and VERY dirty (still, really).
i slapped some .10s on it and gave it a semi-set-up in a hurry.
it sounds WONDERFUL. DANG these german WRHBs are REALLY something!!!
it's all working properly btw, even though it had been stashed away for around 20 years, according to the seller.
the fretboard is a bit sticky and i will clean it properly, as it feels weird playing it.
but there is something REALLY weird feeling about it... i think, the fretboard feels FLAT. like, flat. dunno.
also, i think the 2nd to last fret might have lifted outta its position (or the wood? - truss rod?) as it kills the last 4-5 notes on the fretboard - but only on the 2,3,4 and 5th strings. the bridge is radius'd (...?), but then again, it could be the "flat" fretboard.
ah right, already yesterday i inserted a credit card shim in the neck pocket to fix the action a bit.
strangely, the .10 strings feel like .08 on this one, real buttery, so i'll put .11s on it later.
i'll have to go shopping now and stuff, and give it more time and thought.
but it's a wonderful, solid and rocking piece of german rock history. the color is KILLER, and i'm usually pure hate for red guitars. it's a bit thinner than a Jag but about the same weight. it's the SIZE of a Jag, too, but full scale.
these seem to be a bit rare, being about the last guitars built before Framus went kaputt in the 70s.
stay tuned for more info and such!
Pat.

there was a golden strato deluxe on the UK "gumtree" and even though it was £500 i was sorely tempted but I had just splashed out on a Tele

Genossen!
here's hoping you gathered enough of the cool old stuff. that will not be possible anymore!
cause Pat-män is on the loose, buying it all!
congratulations anyway!!! cool guitar, superb colour.
you say "flat"? Flat as in "flat for Fender aficionados", or really flat? (I just dug my '73's neck, which still isn't restored yet. – would my life be nicer with a radius gauge?)
what can you tell us about neck profile?

Pop is the most wonderful music – as long as it's played with three basses, a string section, and two french horns going "Vroop-Vrooo".

That's a super nice looking guitar, I still have a Framus strato shaped hole in my heart, want one to match the bass I've got.

i really do NOT know what is wrong with this guitar... if there is anything wrong with it at all. it's just somehow weird.
it needs a new nut, definitely. and today i found out it has a weird scale. not the typical short, nor the standard long, but something close to 25 inches.
that's why the .10s feel so toy-ish i guess.
the fretboard isn't flat flat, i checked, but... something IS weird, and i can't put my finger on it.
plus, i think the truss rod might need adjusting. the last couple frets are dead, except on the E strings.
it's like the bridge doesn't have the same radius of the fretboard? dunno. but stay tuned.
i WILL make it lovable. cuz it looks and sounds SO killer, but feels kinda like shit. still.
still.
