Wow! Absolutely stunning!
This must be one of the cleanest vintage guitars I‘ve ever seen! And that dark red Tort. Beautiful!

I‘m in love! 😍

Of course they would. Everything on this guitar, including body stamp (not pictured is 66). The mystery is the neck. It had to be replaced at the factory.
Aye that seems the most likely scenario I think.

Thanks, it is a really nice piece. I'm blessed to care for it until it's next home, many, many, years from now!

Some folks might poo-poo that type of late-60s burst finish (some call it a "target burst" because of the hard gradient transitions between Black, Red, and Yellow), but I LOVE it.

That's a perfect burst, and what a CLEAN vintage piece!

Almost forgot to mention

+1 to that dark red tortoise guard! Stunning.

That neck is also squeaky clean. Another example of a vintage piece that doesn't have a burnt-orange neck, but rather, one that is quite natural and pale.

Do we now if Fender was using Nitro, or Poly, on Jag necks during 68-70? Was there a year that was the official transition from nitro to poly?

Haha, I've never heard "target burst" before ;D
I'm with you though. Absolutely love it.
Such a stunning specimen.

Target burst or German flag sunburst...

A correct 1966 MUST have this!

Some time in 67. This neck is a 69 and it is poly, but it is thin, maybe 2 coats, no more.

Damn what a sweet looking guitar and interesting provenance! Gotta be one of the cleanest Jags I’ve ever seen!
