Question about black Jag/Jazz case dates

Post by Pacafeliz » Sun May 12, 2019 3:52 am

Only just now I realized that one of my cases has a different type of hinges/locks than the other two.

The 2 on the right have logos without "tail", the one to the left has it.

Any way to put a date on them?

Thanks!

I believe the pre-CBS cases prior to late 1965 had no logo. The CBS era from late 1965 to 1966 had a similar tolex finish but a Fender logo without tails and no ® mark after the Fender. Later on into the late '60s the ® mark appeared then the Tolex changed to a rougher texture then the tails appeared....

No logo. I'm guessing the middle one is 1966 if it has a logo with no tails and no reg mark on the logo.

...any other thoughts?
I've found some pics of white/blonde cases ("1963") with those locks, too...
