More pics after cleaning all the varnish off the chrome, cleaning pots and switches, and stringing it up.

Re: 1964 Fender Jaguar
I got a call from a local music store that knows I like Jazzmasters. They tell me there is a guy there trying to sell a really old JM. I get really excited, until I see it's a Jaguar. Still cool, but not what I'm after. I bought it anyway. The owner was probably in his 50s, and pretty worn away looking. Mumbled instead of speaking clearly. The only story I got was that it was his dad's, who had bought it brand new and had played with Mickey Gilley. Who knows if any or all of that is true.
It plays pretty well for the condition it is in. If I were to keep it, I'd refret it, and replace the tone pot. It got pushed so hard at some point the back of the pot came off. I cleaned it and put it back together, but the tone pot isn't functioning. Everything else works as far as i can tell. Jaguar switching seems way over complicated.

Re: 1964 Fender Jaguar
stick a new bridge on there and you'd have what some would call a "players" guitar.
offset guitars resident bass player.

WOW! It looks like it's got some stories to tell

That is a really cool looking guitar! I love that shade of brown that the wood has been stained or has turned to.

Very cool, and just the kind of player I like! One thing I can never quite understand is what someone was hoping to achieve when they stripped the finish and varnished everything....I know there was a point in time when these weren't valuable "vintage" guitars but I'm always at a loss, how is this any better than the factory finish that was on it!? I've got an old Squier that isn't worth much but I wouldn't screw it up like that....ponderous

"Jaguar switching seems way over complicated."
when you're holding it in position you play, the three switches on the bottom are (from left to right) neck pickup, bridge pickup, high pass filter. Sliding them "up" or towards you = "on". The switch on the upper horn is the rhythm switch, and the two roller wheels are (from left to right) volume and tone [up = on; increase volume or tone by rolling left to right] - Just like a jazzmaster.
That's about it, and the only thing extra from JM is the strangle switch/hpf. Just different, but not that complicated.

Re: 1964 Fender Jaguar
Greetings,
I saw this one for sale on ebay (or one very similar) and made an offer! I ended up picking up a different jag, but I absolutely love the looks of this one.
How does it play ? Why did you decide to sell ?

It looks like they stripped and varnished it without even removing the hardware, what kind of savages were those people
