Greetings,
I spotted this on eBay and am curious about everyones opinion on it ;

My guess is refinished. If it is, what would it be valued at?

Yikes, fake-ass decal alert. Not only is the headstock obviously refinished, but it's not done well.

Thanks for your assistance. What would you value a poorly refinished 63 at?
Can a neck refinished in this manner be easily remedied ?

Re: Help identifying original vs refinish 63 Jaguar OLY White
My expertise is mostly grounded in decal nerdiness, so I'll leave it to our resident vintage experts to get into the more substantial question of the finish. A couple things that stand out, though:
- The shots of the body look nice enough, but they're fairly low-res and just blurry enough that I wouldn't draw any definitive conclusions from them.
- There appears to be some significant orange peel texture in the shot of the neck plate, which is not what I'd expect from a quality refin, but I'd want to see more to get a better sense of whether or not that's indicative of the finish as a whole.
- The guitar looks fairly dirty, which either means it hasn't been looked after, or the refin itself is just very old.
- I'm curious about the streaks on the headstock around the tuner peg holes. At first it just looked like age or grime, but I'm almost wondering if the original color was something like CAR or BMM (with a matching headstock), and we're looking at an incomplete stripping.
- Then again, there also appears to be a dark streak near the base of the neck, just above where it bolts into the body, and there wouldn't be any paint there, so who knows.
Sorry I can't be of more use, but I'm eager to hear what others think.

I will say this, though: If you took this thing home for just north of $2,500, and the guitar is in otherwise decent condition, another $500 spent on a high-quality refin would mean you get a freshly cleaned up 1963 Jaguar for around $3k, done more or less to your specs. That's not a bad price, especially since you'll be able to choose the color yourself. Assuming you've got a halfway decent luthier around, I think a very good outcome is possible.
