Recent downtime

Post by mezcalhead » Fri Nov 11, 2011 6:47 am

You may have noticed we were recently down due to being infected with malicious code that directed users to a Russian malware site. That seems to be resolved now, but there are a few ongoing housekeeping matters.

- The Google Plague Warning will disppear eventually, when Google get around to it.

- New accounts are currently on manual activation only. The ratio of spammers to legit requests is about 1:3 or 1:4 right now so it's worth the extra effort for us. The downside is that it may take a little longer for new registrations to be approved; please be patient as we all have day jobs and will get to it sooner or later.

- Old unused accounts are being deleted to clear up the database. This is only for accounts with no posts which have been unused for over a year.

- Certain ISPs are proving to be sources of recurrent spam accounts and where this happens we have been IP blocking the entire range associated with that ISP. If this happens to interfere with your legit account then please email the admin who is located at the offsetguitars with the dot then the com.

Hopefully none of this will intrude on our regular users and we will be able to return you to normal service.

Just an FYI... our host was upgrading the server this morning so that's why we had some downtime. It's completely unrelated to the issues from earlier this week.

This one was my fault but everything is a-ok now... back to the regularly scheduled programming.
