1963 Fender Stringmaster

Post by OffYourFace » Tue Feb 02, 2016 4:04 pm

My parents moved to Utah a few years ago and my mom checks the local classifieds for me. She just found this 1963 Stringmaster (although it was described as a 1953 in the ad). It's in beautiful shape. I don't play steel guitar but I'd be willing to learn... but not willing to pay $1k for a vintage model. She got it for $300! Well, alright then! I guess I'll be learning how to play 8 String Steel guitar (or whatever, just using it for cool sounds on recordings). I'm pretty excited about it 8)

Oh man, that's awesome!

I've been wanting to get into pedal steel for the longest time, but between the entry prices and daunting task of learning how to set up, let alone play the damn thing, I've been pretty intimidated. I have an old '50s Supro/Valco 6-string lapsteel that I use fairly often, but I'm not very good at it, and the quality isn't really the best.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

pedal steel seems like flying a helicopter or something. no thanks! haha
I had a 6 string lap steel but got bored with it. My friend (member 'dain') told me about the C6 tuning for 8 Strings... seems cool!

haha she calls me at least once a month about guitars in the classifieds. Most of the time it's junk but you know something good will pop up eventually.

C6 is nice because it gives you automatic string groups that are major and minor, so the learning curve isn't as steep as other tunings.

Amazing score! Those S-8s don't turn up as often as the mult-neck versions in my experience, and that one is in especially nice shape. The case is killer too! Lots more instructional material out there these days for C6 tuning.

holy crap, what a score!!! I've been using my '66 Champ steel in countless recordings. Killer sound, fairly easy to play, tons of fun. Congrats and enjoy!
