From the thread title I thought you got one, and grew just a tiny bit green with envy.

I wanted one of these for a long time. I'm thinking about it more as musical furniture say on a livingroom coffee table, setting the ambiance of the room in sound, than a mere instrument. When In the future I'll finally have accommodation that I can call my own, I'll get one of these for said purposes if they'll still make them by then.

yes, you nailed it! I guess it can be a nice "ambiance tool" for an exhibition or so.... once ... but maybe not twice.
However, I would not buy one :)

Actually as I think of it, I concluded, that I'll build one (or something like it in a similar manner) eventually. The price seems steep...

I've had one of their modified Omnichords and it is really lovely. My friend has the "Garden". It is fun to play and sample but is extremely limited. The construction on most Folktek stuff is also a bit under par.

That's not so nice to hear, what's your experience?

I'm interested in their modified Omnichord contraptions as well, because I played around with an original and had tons of fun doing so. Would you say it's an improvement, over the original or "really lovely" in a different way?

Check out the muffwiggler.com forum, which I moderate, and search for Folktek. You'll see photos of prior work and a lengthy discussion. To be fair, Mr. Arius Blaze (the creator), stated that his knowledge and work has improved considerably. It's worth a read if you are seriously interested in his/their pieces.

The modified Omnichord is an instrument that can be reliably played in key and in tune with other instruments. It is greatly less random than most of their other offerings although there is one row of touch points that can easily cause the chasms of Hell to open and devour all.

Here are a couple of tracks that I did about 2 years ago when I was learning the beast. Keep in mind that there is a ton of processing on the instrument. Again, go look at Muffwiggler.com/forum for my detailed write up of the instrument.
