besides guitar, anyone else play various stringed instruments in a band??? i play in a portuguese folk group where i play guitar, portuguese guitar, the cavaquinho (the predecessor to the ukelele) and the mandolin...
i'm particularly interested in irish bands and the various stringed instruments they use... here are some vids of me in action (i don't have vids with me on the cavaquinho or the mandolin sadly)

Not in a band, but I've got a mandolin I play at home. Maybe it says something about my playing but I sometimes use it to send my daughters (2 and 5) to sleep when I don't feel like reading to them.

mandolin, banjo, uke, cello, guitar, bass, ...and i have a fiddle but I'm complete rubbish on it. I had to sell my cello a while back to pay bills...but yeh, if it has strings i can generally play it. the hard part for me is remembering which chords are which shapes across the instruments.
What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

I play banjo, I used to play bouzouki, I sometimes play on mandolins. If it's a chordophone instruments I'll play it. I'd like a sitar, but the next thing I get will be the saz.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Besides guitar I play bass and pedal steel. I can play a few other instruments but do not play them regularly.
Send me western swing vids

If it has strings I'll take a go at it!
In addition to guitar and bass, I've played dobro, lap steel, mandolin, Celtic octave mandolin, 12 string guitar, guitaron, tenor guitar, an ud, cello, auto-harp and Paraguay harp.
After playing mandolins a Rickenbacker 12 string's fretboard doesn't seem cramped at all and I also have picked up a lot of open tuneings, mostly of the blues and folk varieties, but some I just made up. That also opened up my ears and I no longer look at the guitar neck in terms of boxes.

Bass, clawhammer banjo, and mountain dulcimer. I've really only been able to find ways to fit bass and guitar into band settings though.

Guitar, cello, bass, [acoustic piano which doesn't really count i suppose]
But yes if its basically a guitar i can pick it up, like mandolins, banjos, cymbala even.
Same goes for other string instruments double bass since i play bass + cello, violin is just like high cello positions (as long as its played sideways!! sticking it under your chin- how ridiculously complicated!) with some time to find the notes and change strength of playing i can do some reasonable things without knowing the way around the whole thing.
I picked up cello pretty late too, i'm certain knowing guitar helped.

I got a shitty ukulele the other day at a pawn shop.....does that count?
But in all seriousness....if you were going to count open tunings, then yeah, the John Butler open C tuning, the Keith Richards tuning and a few other slide/lapsteel tunings along those lines. I've never played an actual lap steel, though.

Re: anyone else here a multi strings musician???
I have dabbled with pedal steel, banjo, and ukulele, but never became proficient. Besides guitar, I play bass well, and am a passable mandolin player. I probably play mandolin as much as I do guitar any more. I'm still a much better guitarist (been playing for 50 years+), but I am really advancing my mandolin skills.
