Well I'll never own anything like this ($$$$) but it sounds beautiful:

Oh! You can get them already built now! I remember coming across some kind of page at some point where you could order a partial kit. Which is cool, if you have the patience and skill for that kind of thing.

Yeah, kit or pre-built, outside of my price range. BUT, I totally get it, too. It sounds really glorious.

Oh goodness. Yamaha CS80 is the dream. The Deckards pulls it off beautifully. Arturia makes a VST of the CS80 but I can't get my head around it. It doesn't follow a typical subtractive synth signal path.

The CS70 is a close cousin and I've listened to this demo many times. https://youtu.be/1_jy9ERBTPs It's absolutely gorgeous.

Yeah, my problem with it is the same. I guess they redesigned the interface with the latest update, but somehow I can't imagine it's actually any easier to use despite it being cleaner looking. It's a hell of a beautiful sound, but I can't get anywhere with it. I have the whole V collection and that's the best sounding synth in the whole thing IMO, but I just don't get it. I can kinda get what I want out of it, but it's like I'm only 75% of the way there after all this time. Frustrating.

I went to my parents place, where I keep a lot of spare gear, and picked up my old Roland SH-2000. It's half-broken, only about 5 or 6 of the presets work, but man, for an incredibly limited and non-versatile synth, it's a lot more fun than I remember. It just sounds like the 70s, in a children's TV show kind of way. It's very reminiscent of Jean-Jacques Perrey/AIR "Cosmic Bird" or Hot Butter "Popcorn". Kitschy but useful. I was going to get it fixed to sell, but I actually want to keep it. It's my first synth I ever got as a 15 year old, knowing only the Roland name, not realizing that it was a mono synth and expecting the Juno sound. I was horrendously disappointed, so I wound up just making noises with it and running it through reverb and delay pedals.

So, in summary, needs work but still fun!

I’ve had a few good synths over the years but only have a few basic ones now. I currently use a Korg MS2000, Korg Monotron Delay, Yamaha CS01, CS10, Roland MC-505, and a Casio PT280.
A few years ago, I had the good fortune to play around on a Yamaha CS-80 owned by Daniel Forro. What a beast! It made all my synths look and sound like toys.

CS-80! Wow. Those things are monsters.

Here's my current synth studio setup. I'd love to add a Wurlitzer to this mix, but currently I'm actually considering picking up one of those little Yamaha electric pianos... Maybe a bit too dinky though?

I love those old SHs very much. :? In fact the very first synth I ever saw or played was a SH-1000. For a first time user such as I was then, it was a gateway to the analog synth world.

Thanks everybody! :)

I'm kind of annoyed that the prettiest synth in the room is the one I have the least use for... Damn Moog Prodigy. I'll have to sell it or trade it for something equally as pretty.. BUT WHAT?
