Re: The Synth Thread...
I have followed through on getting synths because of this thread... and then I find out that the synth that this very thread gave me the gas for isn't as hot as it was supposed to be. Mind you, I'm getting the 'cheaper' synths. I don't have the big $$$ to throw around for those killer synths that cost thousands of dollars, or the patience to score the hidden bargain used synths.

You have the Behringer D, right? No reason why that shouldn't be more than enough, unless you're looking for poly sounds...

Dammit, I went down the YouTube rabbit hole and now I want a Subsequent37.

Re: The Synth Thread...
I ordered the Arturia Minibrute 2S. I'm waiting almost 5 weeks now for delivery and will most likely wait another 2 weeks BUT the Minibrute already cured my GAS for a Sub37: Since with the Minibrute I will own a synth that's perfect for going diddeldydiddeldydiddeldy forever and there is basically no synth with a better sequencer, I don't really need another synth that's going in that direction - which means my tax return will fund me a Sub Phatty for that Moog sound. It's basically a Sub37 without the second lfo and the sequencer/arpeggiator and that's actually a good thing for me. I like my synths to be different. And if I really want to sequence the Moog - well, that's what midi is for. So in conclusion: if you want to safe money buying a synth, buy two synths!

You can now get a Model D on your ipad/iphone for $3495 cheaper than the real thing. I bought it but have not played with it yet.

I wonder how it compares to the Arturia one? I've had that one for awhile. It's okay...

Re: The Synth Thread...
I do, and it's pretty cool. I am/was looking for poly sounds, so I also have the Roland JU-06. It's is fine for me as I don't really need the six voices (as I am a terrible terrible keyboard player ).
This is all one of those "player in my imagination" vs. "player in reality" things where I build massive synth castles in the sky. Every new youtube video and post makes me want more stuff and doubt what I have-- even though I know I'm fine and should just play with what I have and avoid all the gas-threads.

So we're basically of the same mind. To me, I got into synths in the same way a person gets into model trains... But it does indeed get out of control quite quickly!Jaguar018 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 27, 2018 6:31 amI do, and it's pretty cool. I am/was looking for poly sounds, so I also have the Roland JU-06. I love my Juno 106. Everytime I sit down at it, I find more and more sounds in it. It's really quite a simple yet deep keyboard. I've never played the JU-06 but if it's anything similar, then that along with the Moog should get you many a great sound. Hell, figure out the songs played on the Drive and Stranger Things soundtrack, or delve deep and go into the John Carpenter stuff. You can do the Assault On Precinct 13 soundtrack with just those two synths, right there.
Frankly, I don't GAS too much for the expensive unobtainium synth stuff. I just can't be bothered. My wallet thanks me for that.

Re: The Synth Thread...
Supposing you wanted to play your Juno 106 over the same cheap speakers you use to listen to records, with a mind to doing it as cheaply as possible, how would you go about doing that?StevenO wrote: ↑Tue Mar 27, 2018 6:35 amSo we're basically of the same mind. Actually, it'd be better to use the stereo outs and get stereo cables (two mono 1/4" male connectors to stereo RCA). That would be your best bet. Just be careful... The Juno pumps out serious low end.

Re: The Synth Thread...
Not worth starting a NKD thread for, but I took delivery of a Yamaha VSS-200 this morning and do deeply dig it. My collection is starting to look more and more like dezb1's. Or is it the other way round?
I actually think some of the internal sounds - especially the percussive ones - are pretty useable (though they sounded quite noisy through my guitar amp, maybe due to impedance mis-match); I typically play keyboards through guitar FX, so the raw sound is just a jumping-off point....but if you're starting with something that sounds better than a DI'd guitar you're already ahead of the game.
My first brush with the sampler was pretty uninspiring, but that's most likely a RTFM fault (and I don't have the manual). The sampler seems to record on the C rather than the A key, so that didn't help matters....
All in all, though, great little toy.

The vss 200 is great it does record to C, you can get the manual here: www.manualslib.com/manual/340350/Yamaha-Vss-200.htmlUlricvonCatalyst wrote: ↑Sat Apr 28, 2018 2:44 amNot worth starting a NKD thread for, but I took delivery of a Yamaha VSS-200 this morning and do deeply dig it. I recommend using the reverse function on pad type samples rather than loop as it makes for a far less buggy sound.

Thanks for that, Dez. Might have a day of 8-bit sampling ahead of me!dezb1 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 28, 2018 4:05 pmThe vss 200 is great it does record to C, you can get the manual here: www.manualslib.com/manual/340350/Yamaha-Vss-200.html
