I haven't played the Subsequent37 but I think for the price, I'd rather have a couple of different synths. You could get a lot of use out of a Moog Grandmother + something else.

I alway loved the Korg Poly 61...one of the most neglected Korgs but has a really great tone. Dirt cheap until the last couple of years..

Re: The Synth Thread...
Depends. The Little Phatty is much more a classic Moog with an overall much more elegant sound and attitude. The Subsequent is more aggressive and "modern" but has of course a much better control layout. I'd say if you want the sounds a Moog is typically known for, keep the Phatty. If you want a smoother workflow with lots of knobs, classic Moog sound and don't care for presets, get the Grandmother. If you want all the knobs, modern sound and the abbility to modulate everything with everything, get the Subsequent but it'll kind of lack the abillity to make soft and smooth sounds compared to the Phatty.

Re: The Synth Thread...
That's actually exactly what I'm looking for but the prices lately have been going up quite a bit! They're going for like $700 around here. I used to see them for $300-$500. I'd only pay the higher end of that bracket if I knew it had been serviced (cleaned up if needed, battery replaced, etc). I love the way they sound!
I know they're not as good, but I also really dig the Poly-800 as well. Thoughts on those?

Re: The Synth Thread...
Poly800 is still cheap and good, the toy of the Korg Poly series, but still better built than things like the MS20 mini.
Matrix 6/6R/1000/Cheetah are great, not sure on the price these days though, great synths that can do alot, interface is not for everyone. 1000/Cheetah needs a computer or external programmer to program but are the cheapest of the bunch.
The blofeld is pretty much a modern update of the Matrix family and the interface is really aimed towards doing the poly thing, but it has a great deal more in it for those willing to learn its architecture.
Those odd early digital synths, Korg DWs and Casio CZs, make lots of fun sounds, CZs are difficult for most to get more traditional poly sounds from, but they are in there.

Logic gates based on billiard-ball computer designs have also been made to operate using live soldier crabs of the species Mictyris guinotae in place of the billiard balls.

Yeh...super underrated for years..mainly cos its really not pretty, boring looking..no knobs etc..but under the hood you have the Korg OTA filter like the MS-20..SSM hardware EG's and and a pair of detunable DCO's! Theres one on Ebay uk for £300($500)... I'd guess the M version with midi is more desirable.
I've never laid hands on the Poly-800.

I think I'll keep the Phatty and save up for a Grandmother.

Re: The Synth Thread...
yeah I agree! I love the P61. I came across a near mint Polysix at Guitar Center for only $599 (idiots admitted they threw out the original shipping box!) but I let my boss buy it because I loathe them. In my mind, I was rewarded with the $250 1979 Korg MS-20 (early version) that popped up on Reverb
I'd like to have a Poly61M but I don't need it.

Re: The Synth Thread...
I had a Korg Poly800 for years and years.....it had some good sounds, but I never liked it. Tweaking was always so difficult and you need the cassette upgrade to upload new sounds or something. It did teach me about synth stuff and I used it live many times. I put a phase 90 pedal on it and it sounded pretty good. Worth it if you can find one cheap,,,,

Re: The Synth Thread...
I decided to move all of my synths to another room. I plugged in my Juno 106 and OH BOY. Low output except when the chorus is on, then it's super loud and distorted.
Fun!
I'm guessing the remedy isn't to just bring it back into the other room...

Oof.
It sounds like something in the amp stage got knocked around when you moved it?
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

No clue, but I literally moved it twenty feet.
I'ma give it a big ol' shake and see what happens.

Just get some wood wedges and some hammers and...oh, never mind. That's how you repair a submarine that's taking on water. But hey! HAMMERS!!!

I'll give it the Office Space treatment.
