A Jupiter 8 sold locally about 6 months ago for 10k. In US money that's like 7k. It was for sale for a loooong time.
Weird. Was it on eBay or reverb? It could’ve been an earlier 12-bit model (auto tune doesn’t work as well as the revised 14-but model).

A few months ago, we sold one to Mac Miller. He came in a few times himself. He was so sweet. :(

Not entirely sure, but this is the Instagram post from when it went up for sale:

At $10k the Jupiter8 does not give you much synth for the money, really got to love that sound or your collection to justify that.

I am on the hunt for one more synth, the thing is, having a good modulation matrix is fairly important for me, which rules out a good number of synths. Some polyphony would be nice, as well as at least two voice, but I would consider any good versatile synth. I have debated a Virus of some flavor, but its matrix is fairly limited, it relies more on its effects than its engine, the specs are fairly impressive otherwise and the A, B and Snow can be had fairly cheap, but I suspect they would not suit me in the long run.

As of now i have a Blofeld, so probably do not want another Waldorf despite most of their offerings fitting the bill, and an Alesis Micron, which only rules out those few synth it shares its engine with, the Ion and the MiniAK. They come so close to filling my needs, but not quite, the Blofeld has a touch of Waldorf on most everything it does, it is not as bad a the Microwaves and Q, but its voices tend to blend together, if you have more than a few tracks of Blofeld in a song it has a tendency to make everything else sound out of place.

Any recommendations? Under $1kUSD would be nice.

I think at this point, while the Jupiter 8 sounds great, it's one of those '59 Les Paul kind of things. Something to have for the collection, something that will continue to rise in value, etc.

I wouldn't kick one out of bed, but I also don't particularly long for one either.

I would jump on a matrix brute if I found one for close to 1k, cheapest I have seen was $1600 with a hefty shipping charge. Those things look like so much fun.

Yeah. I've got the arturia vst and as close as that is, a jupiter is nothing I'd take over a JV series synth to be honest.
This is an excellent rectangle

Looks like JP8s are coming back down but just a bit.

I have my moments with them. I've repaired/restored quite a few in the last 6 months and once in awhile I'll fall in love with one. Sometimes I'll think to myself, Ehh... but they have a certain thing that I like.

I'd also love to own a Memorymoog... the biggest, fattest sounding poly synth of all time. For those who've never played one, each of the 6 voices is like a minimoog; 3 VCOs on each voice card and super tight EGs. I've restored many and yeah they are a total PITA but the sound is so deep.

The jump happened very quickly this year...I bought mine in 2006 for £950 on ebay. I was the only bidder and thought I'd over paid..I got rid of it when I discovered the Voyetra 8 blew it out the water..it had a much nicer tone and did a lot more which conversely makes it horrible to program since you have 14 pages/layers on one set of controls!

So yeh they obviously started creeping up by 2007...and have got higher and higher..in the Uk hitting 5-7K by the start of 2018. Then suddenly they doubled in price by the summer..I don't know what happened..someone probably tried a crazy price and it sold..next thing everyone is trying their luck and asking the same..hence why you have 7 for sale on Reverb at the moment! So now everyone is trying they luck with them...trouble is when they reach a certain price they become unobtainable..only dealers and collectors with plenty of money have them and this keeps the price high forever.

And...I was forced to sell my Voyetra in the great gear purge of 2014.. but those are crazily priced now, if you can even find one...gutted as I really want it back..I used it a hell of lot on my recordings.

Was going to add...I've had a few memorymoogs, 2 were plusses and all I had to restore from the ground up...yes super powerful, super fat..lovely looking etc. and actually quite delicate an beautiful sounding if you want them to be..But I never ended up using them on anything so always ended up selling. I've had so many synths and drum machines it's a joke to be honest :fp: ..the pricing lately is stopping it though..my heyday was when all this stuff was under 1K.

The new Moog One looks cool, but it's 8K and not as pretty as a MemoryMoog...and you know it's not going to sound like one...although I'm sure it will be great.

That Moog One is amazing. I love all the little design features. I'm excited to hear what it sounds like.

I’ve heard from reliable sources that it sounds good but it’s definitely no memorymoog.
It’s like a voyager. You think it sounds good at first but then compared to a vintage model D it sounds like a plug in.

I guess the routing options are incredible though. It’s way too expensive and it’ll probably be full of bugs like all new Moog stuff.
