Re: Mellotron
Thanks, Johan. $12 sure seems reasonable for a Mellotron plugin, too bad I only have Ableton Live Lite 6 and Garageband. Ah well.

I had this too; effin great. I haven't been able to use it since switching to Mac, though.prospect wrote:I have the plug-in.
It sounds just like it.
Look up GForce M-Tron
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Re: Mellotron
Love the Mellotron; own a Nord Electro 3. Close enough for me!
Just for kicks, here's a short instrumental track I did; it uses the Mellotron glockenspiel, one of the choir sounds, and cello.

yeah - Lennon was fascinated with it right off the bat and apparently got one just in time for that session. with the flute tapes. i heard people freaked when they first heard that intro - especially other musicians who hadn't heard it yet.
long ago our keys guy had one. he actually brought it to gigs. it was ridiculous. and amazing! the tuning was a bitch when the tape motor drives or capstans would wear. i'm glad i learned a bit about them. it was a relic at that time, i can't imagine trying to do it now. i guess one of those minty new ones would be a treat. for the rest of us, yes - the nord 3 is the ticket.

Re: Mellotron
John - does the Nord have the old solo tenor guy who sounds like he's having tummy trouble on the lowest notes? that used to crack me up every time! originally part of the choir set of tapes.jbiscuti wrote:Love the Mellotron; own a Nord Electro 3. Close enough for me!

Re: Mellotron
No it doesn't, I wish it did! I know the one you're talking about. It really doesn't have all that many to offer (I like the sound effects) AFAIK, but the ones it does offer are probably the most usable.46346 wrote:John - does the Nord have the old solo tenor guy who sounds like he's having tummy trouble on the lowest notes? that used to crack me up every time! originally part of the choir set of tapes.jbiscuti wrote:Love the Mellotron; own a Nord Electro 3. Re: Mellotron
LOVE the Mellotron sound. I actually used it for one of my tracks a while back:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpV_tzltqtw
What I did was download the old sample mp3's that are floating around. Here's the site I think I used ( http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/aphex/113/ ) and sampled those through an old Casio SK-1. It was luckily in tune enough to track with and worked out well, apart from being extremely lo-fi due to the process. But, hey, it worked!
