Anyone else amused by the fact that with M-Tron, Nord patches, etc. we're now using samples of a sampler? Or are they more of an emulation/modeling thing?

A studio I recorded in had one for a while.. It was really cool. Especially the applause key. That was my ridiculous.

I agree to a certain extent. The flute sound is certainly worn out, but it's not every day that you hear a boys choir or a cha-cha rhythm.

That was my go-to until the Nord came along. Now I can't get enough of 'melting' mellotron sounds into more complex synth textures.

I've played one - my college has one in their musical instruments library (next to the first production model Moog, the Theremin used for sound effects on several Detroit RKO radio broadcasts, and an awesome 80's Linn drum). It is super cool, but man, that thing would be a real beast to maintain.

I want one badly, but it's way to expensive. I hope to stumble across one for a symbolic price at a garage sale or something. I think it would be smarter buying a new one anyhow, they have all the problems that the old ones had sorted out.

Is there even a single free Mellotron plugin for Mac available? I've searched my ass off but I can't find anything. :-/

Have a look at this KVR thread. Some guy has built a few Kontakt patches, if you don't have Kontakt you can always build something of your own using the samples provided at the top of the thread: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 175dcd3c3f

Puremagnetik have made three different Mello sets. They're very modestly priced at $12 each(Ableton/Kontakt/Logic): http://puremagnetik.com/index.php?optio ... Itemid=190
