Lap steel with benders...like a compact pedal steel! Why didn't anyone think of this sooner?
Too bad they're like $2000. :(

Nice idea, but ridiculously over-priced. The idea has been done before, in various ways. Realistically, you're better off learning to "fake it" with slants and behind-the-bar bends on a regular lap steel.

That is such a sweet sound.
They still look kinda funny to me but it's the kind of sound I could put on at night to fall to sleep to.

You could simply buy the bender separately:
http://www.rockinger.com/index.php?cat= ... duct=2405C
or alternatively a Bigsby bender, which is similar, then install it in a cheap lapsteel. The only problem is you won't have the sliding nut, although you could try converting an aftermarket roller nut, like this one:

For the Bigsby bender you need some sort of bridge too.
Lapsteels are nothing special in construction, it would be really easy to build one, you don't even need a separate fretboard like many of them have, you can just paint the fret positions on if you want.

Anyone want to go in half on it and split time sharing it each year?
