I picked up one of those butterscotch-pearloid-colored Fender Champion lap steel bodies for $50 at a guitar swap-meet. It's a piece of ash, and has '1952' scratched onto the back. It was stripped of any hardware.

I was surprised to find the chrome metal head-stock' piece and the chrome tone-control/pickup-cover piece on eBay for $50-60 each. Still need the bridge (but I'm not paying $69 for THAT- even if it IS original). I bought some new quality metal 'vintage-Kluson'-style tuners for it. So I still need the metal silk-screened 'fret-board,' the bridge, and the electronics. It's coming along slowly...

There's an old British hippie busker dude on YouTube doing some killer stuff with one of the $69 Rogue/Artisan lap steels with some distortion, wah, and some battery-powered Roland micro-amp w/ echo. Check him out on YT at 'Nelly Slide Guitar'

I own one, but don't really play it. I'm mostly a pedal steel player. I found this on the local Craigslist page. It's a 1939 Epiphone Electar Century.

I play my Baby Taylor lap style because the neck is kind of whacky and I have not gotten it fixed. Any benefit to using different kinds of steels?

I put an extension nut on my Peavey T15
the scale length is just a little longer than an actual lapsteel.
and I can just unwind the string and take out the nut if I want to play it as a guitar again in 5 mins.

I use the T.Arm on a PS-5 to fake pedal steel sounds.

I can never find a lapsteel for sale when I have cash. The nut only cost me $9.00
