Re: Who all plays drums? Show your kit!
Shown pix of this kit before but not in such good light. For the record, these are 1994 Nashville era Slingerlands. 13/16/24 & 14x6.5 snare.
Also, under the same lights several months later, my new "fun" kit. These are late 60s Tempro Pros. They are Japanese made Pearls (unlike that period's MIJ drums they are 6 ply mahogany without reinforcement rings). The "Pro" indicates nicer hardware and 8 lugs for the snare and kick. Too nice (almost like new old stock) and cheap ($250) to pass up. The bearing edges were excellent (at my brother's advice I still waxed them as there were a few inconsistencies in the snare's bottom edge) and they sound rather nice and warm. Got them tuned up somewhat high and with thinner heads (Ambassadors all around except Emperor on kick batter...no mic hole and using felt to muffle the kick old school) than I'd normally use. 13/16/20 & 14x5 snare (which I don't care for so much...will use one of my other snares live with this kit from now on).

Yeah, unfortunately while putting on new heads I discovered a stress crack on the kickdrum. Really not looking forward to dealing with warranty BS and what I'm sure will be the inevitable 10-14 week wait for a replacement.NBarnes21 wrote:those look awesome!bdm wrote:Finally...

The whole process of getting these drums has been really ridiculous.

Not a great pic (I actually just realized I don't really have many pics of my drums so I should probably change that, haha) but my friend took this while I was recording a solo EP thing last month.
It's a Pearl EXR kit (11, 16, 22) and a Pork Pie brass patina 13"x7" snare, with Pasite rude hats, a 2002 16" crash, and an alpha 22" rock ride.

I love Paiste! I was using an 80s Sabian ride for a while but it sounded so dull compared to the Paistes so I swapped it out. I keep wanting to add another crash but I kind of like keeping it more stripped down. At one point I had another tom and a crash/ride, but I felt like keeping it simple would force me to get better (read: not suck).northern_dirt wrote:I gots that... or 15"..TV's Ross wrote:2002 16" crash,.

I honestly chose paiste because of the heritage of the originator.. And because I know how to pronounce it properly.. unlike the Swiss who make them now HAAHTV's Ross wrote:

Almost every person I've spoken to about Paiste has pronounced it differently, it's really confusing, hahahanorthern_dirt wrote:I honestly chose paiste because of the heritage of the originator.. I didn't know that's what it meant! Very cool, and appropriate. Also, shockingly, I've been pronouncing it correctly!northern_dirt wrote:The original dude was Estonian.. the word means to shine in Estonian..

Its as close as I can approximate the sound in English
Its more soft P.. almost a B..
I saw graffiti in Estonia in 1994.. SONIC YOUHT... There is no TH sound in Estonian.. HT is the closest.. I kinda chuckled about that

Ha, that's pretty cool. I always love finding out idiosyncrasies across languages/ cultures/ dialects/ etc.

Re: Who all plays drums? Show your kit!
Here is my Gretsch Catalina Club kit I picked up a couple of months ago. It's copper sparkle in their jazz sizes (12/14/18). It came with a 14" snare but it sounds pretty brutal so I'm using a 14" Ludwig Acrolite from the 90's. For cymbals I have 13" Zildjian KZ hihats and a 20" K ride. I'm really digging how the kit sounds!
Pics soon!
