I have one charango! Got it as a present from northern Argentina, where they make them too. It sounds really cool, I tuned it properly a couple of times but learning all the chords forms got a bit tedious. I use it from time to time to fool around, though.
When I take the subway to the university (in Buenos Aires), I often run into guys playing them along a kind of group of small flutes sticked together called siku (both at the same time, as one would play the acoustic guitar and the harmonica).
