Korg microKORG 2!!

Post by Shadoweclipse13 » Tue Jan 23, 2024 9:52 pm

loopop - MicroKORG 2 vs the OG // Here's a preview of what's new

This sounds awesome!! I've been considering an OG MicroKORG for a year or so, partially because of reviews from you fine folks, partially from online reviews, versatility, etc. The upgrades seem very worthwhile and well thought out.

I do think that considering how often people have modded their OG MicroKORG to a desktop synth (no keyboard), it would've been worth it for Korg to release a desktop version, but maybe they will!!

Anyone who's got an original plan to upgrade to the 2?

For sure. 20-21 years later, the original is still on a bunch of stuff I'd imagine. Or at least some songwriting done on a song to get the basics down?

I use mine nearly daily still for writing. The screen doesn't work anymore after it lost a fight with a pint of Guinness. It's used more as a small midi input for Logic now with the occasional use of internal sounds, but if it died I would replace it instantly.

But would you replace it with an OG? With the 2 coming out now? ;D

If the 2 is going to be between £600 and £700 like my quick search suggests then I'd definitely just get the original version, preferably second hand.

No doubt the new version is going to be brilliant, I can guarantee it would be wasted on me though.

Yeah, the idea that it'll be that expensive kinda sucks. The whole ubiquitousness of the original, in my opinion, is due partially (if not *most* of the reason) to the low price point. It was crazy accessible to a lot of people. $600-$700 is not a small amount of money...

Looks like too much faffing about for me. It’s not that I don’t understand it I just get bored. I’m sure it’s great though.

EDIT - but there will fantastic patch libraries available for idiots like me.

I feel like I get bored with the microKORG too quickly, and not a fan of the mini keys. But still interested to see what the new one can do.
