i've always had a preference for coated ambassadors, and i absolutely hate black kick fronts... so yeah you did good! :D

thanks jonas!  gonna take your advice here!
i have coated ambassadors for the batters of
the snare and toms, so it'd match up nicely too!
plus they sound killer!  will keep you updated..
i really think painting the bass hoops will do wonders too.

i'm excited.  thanks everyone!

We need to start a thread where we can post pictures of our kits...

ooops, i think i misunderstood you back there, i thought you had bought the ones you posted... sorry :-[

but yeah, next time go for coated ambassador for the batter side and the ludwig one for the front Image
you could also try Falam Slam pad on the batter head, it gives it more focus and attack (and increases durability), if you're into that. on some drums it can sound a bit metal, but it worked wonders on my old 24" gretsch kick, which was a bit hard to tame without one.

OK JULY 20TH UPDATE.. HAD a bit of time off and figured this'll likely be my last update
for a while!  (as i've ALMOST completed my effed up 'rub-ix cube' called my kit.)
the only thing that remains is the throne (I'm getting one soon )

check it out though...  mmmm i'm quite proud..  oh yeah.. the hoop turned out nice,
still only did one so far.. so i suppose the other one is next.. and then i put the reso
kick head on finally!   whew!  excitement broods..  sounds great!  what you think?
