An early attempt at an analog synthesizer. Created in 1947, but not put to much use until 1960 or so when Joe Meek had the Tornadoes use it on "Telstar" and the Moontrekkers on "Night of the Vampire." John Lennon used one on "Baby You're a Rich Man."
Someone asked what fuzz pedal made that tone in another thread, so I thought I'd post it here as well as there aren't many working models still out there. It has a cool sound and the amplifier is an integral part of the instrument as it adds it's own distortion to the output signal. It's been used on other tunes besides the famous ones, and I think Radiohead has used one or one of the copies that came after it, but there really isn't anything in the modern world that sounds like a Clavioline.
