That makes sense. Still a great price, but not nearly as insane as I'd first thought. I'm really curious how you feel about it now, because I've been debating between the 6 and the 12. The 12 would be fantastic, but like you said, I don't play keyboard/piano yet (learning!), so I'm not sure I'll need the full-size keyboard of the 12 just yet. I also don't care if I have 12 full voices personally. I think 6 voices is MORE than enough.

I went on the same premise as well. My wife has an 88 key korg that will likely be being used in our live set-up also. My major use for this is pads to compliment that and the rest of our sound. The Juno that I want so bad is only 4 voices, so I thought 6 to be enough.

This is the video that sold me on the 6

That sounds awesome! I've been finding all sorts of video on the Deepmind lately. I wish there were more of the 6 since the 12 has been out longer. Luckily, they're the same synth engine, just a different quantity of voices. I found this one, that is REALLY doing it for me: Deepmind 12 Relaxing Music Synth Demo

There's so much that can be done with synths if you, 1. Be creative, and 2. Use effects.

Some of the worst presents can sounds ridiculous if you add some spacious reverb and a bit of delay. Phaser can help as well, for pass.

People slag the Juno 106 a lot but it's such a beautiful sound to my ears. I see no reason why a Deep mind can't sound wonderful too.

I agree. I hadn't thought of some synths needing effects to sound a bit rounded-out, but I was kinda thinking about it from an experimental perspective. I love the sound of the classics, but it seems like the Deepmind has a decent thing going on. I still want to play one in person, but I've been so busy lately. I definitely agree that creativity in the user is probably the best thing for any instrument though :)

I'm curious to hear your thoughts too. Not that I'm in the market for one...

Here's a little thing I recorded back when I first got my Juno 106. It's just a sequence I recorded with my Arturia Key Step and the played into the Juno on the bank 1 patch 1 setting and just manipulated the sliders and buttons from there.

That sounds awesome Steven! How'd you record it? Just the Juno outputs into recorder?

Holy crap! The guy who does the "Once Upon A Synth" videos, has a few on the Deepmind that sound epic! I didn't know it would be possible to get these kinds of sounds out of it!!

Yep! Just plugged it from output to the line in on my little MP3/WAV recorder.

So far, I just want to say that I think I love this thing. It's way over my head at the moment but I was able to coax some pretty awesome sounds out of it without looking at the manual and having never played keys.

I usually don't like things with learning curves. But once I learn how to manipulate the main features I'll be fine. This, to me anyway, would always have a new sound to offer.

Very glad with the purchase

Super glad to hear that Unicorn!

I've been looking at a few things and I'm leaning towards the 6 instead of the 12. Between the size and price, it seems more up my alley, but I'm wondering: how is playing it with a 3 octave keyboard? I know a vintage Juno has a 5/6 (more?) octave keyboard, but I'm not mainly a synth player. I don't know if having that many octaves available all the time, like playing high and low simultaneously like a piano, is a common thing on synths...

I briefly checked out the octave feature and it seems to be adequate to fill any sonic space I would ever need for recording or live playing.

I feel that it's built pretty nicely actually. It feels good and sturdy. The sliders seem fine. Again, I'm no synth hero, but I believe it to be just as durable as anything else in that price point.
