This is the only track I’ve done where I used my Xpander..also used my Roland CR-78 drum machine. I used the Xpander for those synth pad swells across the track.

Re: List all your keyboards and synths!
Yes Definitely in the middle. I'd say the sound gets smoother from OBX to the Xpander.
The OBX can be way too big, it makes more sense in a rock band (main chords in Rush's Subdivisions is the obvious example) or the main sound in a song (Sweet Dreams). It's hard to make it subtle. The OB-8 is amazing and very versatile. I'm interested in the Xpander for all it's modulation capabilities, it's very modular-like. It's a bit smoother than the OB-8 for pads but I'm happy with everything the OB-8 provides me. So yeah, I say get one. I'd say that the OB-8 is my 'desert island' Polysynth.
I mainly want the Xpander because I'm a big Steve Roach fan (he used an OB-8 as well)
Nice! I remember this trackeggwheat wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 7:41 amThis is the only track I’ve done where I used my Xpander..also used my Roland CR-78 drum machine. I used the Xpander for those synth pad swells across the track.

Re: List all your keyboards and synths!
I just traded my CS-50 for a really nice 1976 Minimoog...
I loved my CS-50 but I don't use it very much. I'll use the mini a ton.
Now I gotta sell my micromoog.
I'll probably keep the Prodigy for a bit. I'd rather haul that out to use live (one day )
I modified it to be a bit beefier like a minimoog.

I have tentatively sold one of my Junos... Sad to see it go, but I need the money.

There are plenty of Junos in the sea of gear. If you already have a 106 and want something else to pair with it in the future, The Alpha Juno is highly underrated. I have the rack version, the MKS-50. It blends well with a 106 via MIDI to emulate a Two Osc per voice sound.

I've honestly considered picking up an Alpha, for sure. I like that they sound and feel JUST different enough from a 106 to warrant both. Not a huge fan of the lack of controls, but *shrug*.OffYourFace wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 2:35 pmThere are plenty of Junos in the sea of gear. I could actually also see myself getting a cheap JX, either a 3P or an 8P. I've always liked those, and I don't really know why. OR I could just buy a boatload of Behringer stuff, because I dig that stuff quite a bit.

You can get an App editor for the Alpha. I have the PG-300 but I have some decent custom patches on my MKS-50 that I actually paid for (like $9) that sound great. I usually just make changes to the envelopes when needed.StevenO wrote: ↑Sun Jul 19, 2020 3:54 am

A JX3P is cool but i'd avoid the 8P. I had one. It sounded great but they all seem to have this weird thing where there's a keying issue that makes a hanging envelope on a voice randomly. They're not fun to work on. Fortunately, this is not an issue when you use a MIDI device to control it.

Interesting! I knew about the app editor for the Alpha... Did not know about the weird key issue with the 8P. I used to see the 3Ps for very cheap, with the programmer, but now they're getting up to Juno prices locally...
Boo.
Boo.

Here are some of my synths and keyboards. Nothing too expensive or special here. Several of them could easily be replaced by something better or even by each other. Some are not much more than toys, but they all have a purpose.

Axoloti is amazing. Totally changed how I approach things as it allows me to take an idea and pretty quickly have something to try it out with.
