I sold mine off. Now I'm down to just a Roland jv 1010 with an akai mpk controller.

When behringer gets the ubxa to market, I'll get one of those, too.

My current lineup:
  • 1977 Fender Rhodes 73 Stage (in working order but could really use a proper going through)
  • 1970 Yamaha U3
  • 1980 Moog Prodigy (with CV/Gate-in mod)
  • Korg MS-20 reissue
  • Yamaha KX61 controller
  • Vox and Farfisa organ plugins
  • M-Tron plugin
  • Juno 60 plugin
  • Arp Odyssey plugin
  • OBXd plugin
  • Hohner Melodica
  • Toy Piano
  • Xylophone

Things I would like (that are attainable):
  • Roland Juno 106
  • Suzuki Omnichord OM-84
  • Teenage Engineering OP‑1

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Oh, right, plugins. I have some of those.

Arturia collection v4
FM8
Mr. Ray/Mr. Tramp
OBXd
Asynth

And a bunch of other freebies that I don't use. If I didn't have FM8, I'd probably have Dexed. It'd be nice on one hand to upgrade to the newest arturia collection, but honestly the only thing it'd bring to the table would be the electric pianos, and Mr. Ray pretty much covers that for me. It's funny; I've got wonderful plugs in the Arturia collection, but of the ones I use, only the vox organ really stands out to me as having utility I couldn't get someplace else. Asynth is all the minimoog I've needed, while the Matrix, SEM, and CS-80 synths are all basically eclipsed for me by OBX type synths which OBXd does for free without the hassle of learning different programming schemes. The Matrix and CS are both pigs in that respect. Too much going on.

FM8 is still the best interface for FM synths as far as user friendliness goes, I think. The new model D is so cheap that I can probably justify buying one. Having 3 oscillators instead of just 2 would be really nice, but the no polyphony thing would be a bummer. I dunno, I'm kinda finished with soft synths. Better a few bits of hardware I know well and can enjoy being hands on with, I think.

There’s a lot more toy pianos than I expected...

David, how do you like the DX5? We might take in a DX1 in the near future.

We have a GX-1 in our shop ATM! It doesn’t belong to anyone famous.... just a british guy who’s obsessed with ABBA haha.

I've watched this video so many times, but mainly because the narrator keeps saying Yeah-mahahh over and over again. ;D

Not sure if these count as synths, but I have:

- Moog Etherwave Theremin
- Critter & Guitari Bolsa Bass (a bit toy like but more usable than a flat out toy)

I used to own a bunch of other synth/keyboard gear (nothing particularly serious):

- Korg Microkorg
- Dave Smith Mofo
- Moog Minitaur
- Arturia MIDI Keyboard of some sort
- Yamaha RY-30 Rhythm Programmer (Drum Machine)... technically a synth?
- Circuit bent Casio SK-1

I also had access for a long while to a friend's Nord Lead, which was great fun.

Mostly I used that stuff in conjunction with my Bass using a MIDI converter. Unfortunately I've never been that great at using keyboards effectively themselves.

Unfashionable as it may be I love DX's, they are just the sound of 80's ambient. I've also got the BC-1 breath controller which came with the DX7 I had before this. I sold the DX7 to cover the cost of the 5 and while having the two of them is quite redundant, I kinda wish I'd kept it.

One of my favourite records is Sleeps with The Fishes by Pieter Nooten and Michael Brook and while I'm not much for recreating sounds I've enjoyed using it to sound similar (it's mostly Eno patches).

It's a little easier to use than a DX7 but basically does the same thing with frills.

A mate of mine has just found a keyboard in the loft of his new house and he's going to let me have it for a nice bottle of whisky. It's a Roland JX-8P, not sure if it works but it apparently switches on, I'll know more when I find the time to get up there. He lives outside Dunoon which requires a ferry trip to get there. I could just send a courier but it's bit rude not checking out the house.

No love for Elektrons?

Elektron A4
Octatrack
Analog RYTM
Novation Peak
Roland SE-02
Make Noise 0-Coast
Yamaha RY-30

I shared a studio for 20 years and was able to use my mate's amazing synth collection (Prophet 10, Cs-80, Minimoog, Rogue, Memorymoog, Arp Odyssey, MS-20, Monopoly, and a few others). Then I relocated and had to set up a new studio to continue working and had to buy brand new stuff that I never thought I would use, but so far it's working great.

  • Yamaha CS-01 monosynth (got it new in 1983 at age 13. I was dreaming of a Jupiter 6 or at least a SH-101, but this was what my parents could afford. I loved it, and I made a lot of music with it on a Tandberg reel-to-reel which could do sound-on-sound)
  • Casiotone VL-1 (got it new in 1980)
  • Big Briar Etherwave Theremin
  • Behringer Deepmind 12
  • Roland Boutique JX-03
  • Yamaha Reface YC
  • Yamaha Reface DX
  • Waldorf Blofeld
  • Waldorf Streichfett
- The latter six pieces aquired within the last year or so. You can say I've been on a synth binge lately, initiated by the purchase of the Deepmind. I got obsessed with exploring the different types of synthesis (analog subtractive, wavetable and FM). The Reface YC is a wonderful little combo organ with great digital Vox and Farfisa and Hammond emulations etc.) and the Streichfett features an impressive digital model of a 1970s-style string machine - plus a whole lot of additional options. I think I'm done now ;)
