Maybe not the most exciting news, but I’m very happy about it. I found a Yamaha U1 being sold locally in CL for a ridiculously good price and contacted the buyer immediately. She was selling most of her stuff and moving the first week of July, so she priced everything low to speed up the process. She got a lot of interest but apparently I showed up first (she had posted it only hours earlier). Anyway, it’s in great condition, minus some natural patina and badly needing a tuning. I’m supposed to let it sit for a couple weeks before tuning it, so I’ll have to just live with the torture of waiting.

Cheers! The action is quite nice, actually. I don’t know if I’d call it bouncy, but it rebounds quickly without too much racket and it’s broken in enough that there’s no extra effort needed to play it. Does that make sense? All that said, I’m struck by the weight of the keys. My old piano was the one I grew up playing (a mid-70s Hobart Cable spinet) which wasn’t ever very good in the first place. The keys on that were suuuuper soft, offering no real resistance when you played, and the sound was harsh and metallic.

Yay! That's really turning into quite the little studio there. Nice score.

nice. we have a yahama upright piano in our music room. it's brown...but looks exactly the same otherwise.

we also have a dawg laying in our music room...he's brown, too; but not as brown as the piano. he always comes down when i (or we) are playing/recording.

we call it "Snoring Dawg Studio"

congrats!

Lovely!

Would love a proper upright. I have a decent electric piano, but it's quite possible to walk past an electric piano without playing, whereas it's nearly impossible to walk past a decent upright and not get stuck playing it.

...you think you're better than me? Just because you have a nicer piano?
