Fender... 1973......

Post by sookwinder » Fri Apr 21, 2017 3:57 am

Last December I decided I wanted a Rhodes, so I contacted Chicago Electric Piano Co., who had done my "mellow yellow" custom paint job on a Wurlitzer EP.
Requested a quote and some customisation.
Not withstanding that it was completed in the middle of February, but I only just received it yesterday, here is a fantastic 1973 Fender Rhodes "Stage 73" electric piano. Totally refurbished and restored.

I now have two issues... where to store the lid ! :D
How do I re-arrange the 7 keyboards I have so I do not look like some weird arsed old woman who has 47 cats and piles of newspapers going about 30 years. :fp:

Here is a clip that REVERB did of my Rhodes before it was shipped.

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

I'm not sure to whom this quote should be attributed, but I believe it came to me through the wisdom of Judge John Hodgeman:
The difference between a hoarder and a collector is a curio cabinet.
Anyway, I suggest you just start removing art and other non-essential decorations and start replacing it with strong wall mounts for keyboards and amps and guitars. Or possibly a system of ceiling mounted pulleys and platforms.

Fantastic!

I've got a Mark II that I'd love to send to them for a serious tune-up, but the mere thought of packing and shipping it gives me the heebie jeebies!

That is nice!

My former neighbor had a plain one so I used to be able to get my fix there until he moved last month. Almost made me buy a Continental that I saw recently that was twin tiered with the black/white keys reversed and red case, but it was mint condition and more than I could easily afford. It was as pretty as that Rhodes of yours though!

Looked like this:

I'd probably just get myself a nice cape and stack them like I was some Prog Rock God. I'm probably more Dave Stewart than Rick Wakeman but I don't think Dave had a cape.

That's a seriously lovely instrument you have there, well played for just going all out and getting exactly what you want.

D
