Do most come with 1/4 jacks?

Most pro synths do, yeah.

Anyone mess with any of the Volca stuff? I've been considering a Beats since I'm no drummer, but I've not messed with any of the series.

They're more toys than synths but you can have some fun for some time.

Sold a load of stuff on eBay... but ended up buying an old 80s drum machine:



A cheapo but cool the roll button is tonnes of fun... very New Order.

Even got the original yamaha strap for added ROCK

Most of these old things I buy are just for recording. If I need any of the sounds live I usually sample them.

The sample seems like a better option for drums than the beats. Cuz you got choices.

I'm thinking about a volca sample for just that reason.

Really? That's interesting. I just figured that the sampler was just that. Wouldn't you have to record something or use something that already exists to sample, or does it have drums built-in that you can program?

It's a sample sequencer, meaning really just a drum machine you bring your own sounds to.

Well, that's my lack of knowledge then I always thought samplers were basically just looper pedals/recorder with some cool functions. I didn't think they had ANY of their own sounds, just ways to record, loop, and tweak the sounds you input into them.

Yeah, most are, or at least allow for longer sample times, but the volca is really just suited for drum sounds and other short samples. There's functionality there to alter them and do some basic editing but the sequencer part is pure drum machine.

I have a Yamaha PSR-41 that I love to bits. It sounds way better than it should. It's also another Beach House synth. It's the sound of the main part/intro of "Lover Of Mine".

The Micron/miniAK are great little synths for the money, more of a programmers synth than a guitarist synth though. Not the sort of synth you can just fiddle with, you need to spend the time to learn its engine to get anything out of it. Not sure if there is as capable of a synth for $200ish they cost, I got mine for $130.

The blofeld is pretty great, and at $500 for the desktop is a great deal. It will be my next synth most likely, need to get the engine of the Micron down better be for I get another though.
