Double / Upright Basses in Germany..?

A bit of info required please:
I have some old bandmates who are now living in Hamburg, we used to have a pretty tight Rockabilly trio before they moved over from lil' ol' New Zealand. They have scored some good gigs that they want me to come over and play at in Europe, but getting a double bass across oceans is a mission.
Are reasonable used double basses readily available in Germany, and what should I expect to pay? I do have the option of hiring, but would rather buy something.
