Synth noob need you

Post by JTurbide » Mon Jan 16, 2017 9:14 am

Hi guys, I'm thinking about getting a quite cheap synth. I basically can't play piano except for simple chords or just simple (not so fast) notes, and I don't gig, so I don't need something super fancy and big. I would mostly use it for drones and simple chord progression and stuff like that to have more fun when jamming alone or with a friend. I'm a total noob concerning synth so I would appreciate your suggestions. Playing mostly neo-psych/shoegaze/folkrock.
What is a good cheap (I don't mind buying used so I could go for something not so bad) synth ? What do I need with it ? (amp?, software?)
So far I'm thinking microkorg? something cheaper but still good? anything else?

My kind of jams (looking for those kind of sound):

The Yamaha Reface CS looks interesting. I only found out about the Reface range yesterday, via the electric piano version.

That said, the Microbrute's a no-brainer....unless you want polyphony.

Totally digging that E Gone track, by the way.

Try: EGone - Recording the humming of melodious caves. it's fucked up

btw thanks for the suggestion I'll look it up

edit: just realised that minibrute was polyphonic so I can't play chords with it... not for me i guess.

What do you guys think about the Korg Volca Keys for background chords and drones ? It seems capable of doing what I want of a synth and really cheap !

Also, I'm gonna sound totally stupid but, what do I need with it and how do I plug it?
I have a guitar amp but I'll be using it for my guitar.. so can I plug it straight in the same amp in another input or do I plug it in a audio interface ? directly into speakers? thanks
